West Virginia University seeks applications for the position of Assistant Athletic Director for Academics. The position will report to the Associate athletic Director for Student Services and will be responsible for assisting with the overall management of the athletics academic support unit which includes all academic counselors, advisors, tutors and mentors, long range planning for the athletics academic support unit. The position will also be responsible for assisting coaches and athletic staff in the recruitment process for student athletes including but not limited to arranging meetings with professors and other campus academic officials and to maintain a liaison effort with the faculty and other members of the academic community to facilitate the success of the student athletes. Additional duties include maintaining various day to day relationships with Admissions and Records, the Office of the Provost, and other academic departments, schools and colleges as well as being responsible for building and maintaining relationships with the student athlete population as a mentor, advisor and role model. The position will also be required to adequately supervise various members the academic support staff and effectively lead their activities and development. A bachelor's degree is required, master's degree is preferred - degree in counseling, student personnel or related field. Previous experience working in a college or university athletic academic support operation for five years or other significant experience working in athletics, involvement in athletics or working with student athletes at various levels. The position will remain open until filled.
