Matt Donovan is in his ninth year as associate director of athletics for development at the University of Indianapolis. Donovan, 40, joined the athletics department in 1999 to build financial support for Greyhound athletics by spearheading the growth of the Greyhound Club. With a dedicated Board of Directors, the Greyhound Club recently surpassed the 1,300 membership mark since its inception in 1997. Under Donovan's leadership, the Greyhound Club has surpassed the $1.5 million mark in annual gifts to the organization. The Club initiated the Crimson and Grey Member Drive in 2003. During that year, membership in the Greyhound Club brought in 225 new members, including the underwriting of all 76 graduating student-athletes for their membership. In addition to the development of the Greyhound Club, Donovan has created a comprehensive partnership program that has netted over $200,000 in sponsor dollars in four years. He has established a planned giving society that has secured over $250,000 in future commitments to the University as well. The result of the increased support of Greyhound athletics has brought a host of capital improvements ranging from facility renovations to stadium enhancements. In addition, the growth in visibility and support of Greyhound athletics has also resulted in a first-ever licensing agreement to protect the University's logos, to make Greyhound apparel available in more retail outlets, and to develop revenue streams for the University. Donovan oversees the marketing and promotions for the department and negotiates the University's TV contracts for the UIndy Television Network and its affiliates. He has been instrumental in establishing the department's pod and web casting as well. Prior to joining the athletics department, he worked from 1994-99 as the UIndy Director for Annual Giving, building a 15% increase over the four years. In that role, Donovan created and implemented new solicitation programs for parents, faculty/staff, and advanced degree recipients; raising record amounts from each. Donovan has an extensive background in fund raising, having served as Project Director for The Campaign for Penn for 1993-94 at the University of Pennsylvania and Associate Project Director for the Purdue University Phone-A-Thon from 1991-93. He and his wife, Angela White, have two sons: Casey, 6 and Patrick, 3. |
