Judy Van Horn Position: Associate Athletics Director/SWA Institution: University of Michigan

Judy Van Horn, associate athletics director and senior woman administrator, began her tenure with the University of Michigan in 2001. Her primary responsibilities include oversight of the athletics department's Compliance Services Office. Van Horn serves as the University's primary liaison with the Big Ten Office, NCAA and Michigan's Office of the General Counsel for compliance issues and is a member of the athletics department executive staff. In addition, Van Horn oversees implementation of the University's NCAA Peer Review Certification Plan for Improvement.

Prior to joining the Michigan staff, Van Horn worked at Michigan State University (1997 - 2001), initially as the compliance coordinator with responsibility of day-to-day oversight of the MSU Office of Compliance Services, eventually being promoted to assistant athletics director with primary oversight responsibilities for compliance operation. In addition, while at MSU, she taught a course entitled, "Ethical Issues in Athletics." From 1989 to 1997, Van Horn worked at Central Michigan University, developing its NCAA rules education program and compliance monitoring systems.

Van Horn has extensive experience handling critical and often high profile issues. She has presented at various NCAA and Big Ten conferences, the Institute for Continuing Legal Education and various organizations regarding current collegiate sports issues and NCAA rules compliance. She has served on university committees on numerous occasions and has twice hosted and coordinated the prestigious Compliance Summit. In addition, she is the 2005 recipient of the Outstanding Achievement Award granted by the National Association of Athletic Compliance Coordinators (NAACC).

Van Horn holds a master's degree in sport administration and a bachelor's degree in business administration from Central Michigan University. She and her husband, Dave, reside in Pinckney, Michigan. They have 3 adult children and 2 grandchildren.
