AD INFORMATION: Order Form

The National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and the members of the Division I-A Athletics Directors McLendon Minority Scholarship Steering Committee are proud to present the inaugural Induction of the Legends Class of Minority Athletics Administrators. The celebration will recognize the Legends Class at a luncheon on the afternoon of December 18 at Cleveland State University's Wolstein Center. In addition, a fund raising basketball game between Cleveland State University and Ohio State University will take place later that evening at Quicken Loans Arena.

The 2007 Legends Class consists of six minority administrators who have left their mark in athletics history. These honorees were the FIRST African-Americans to hold the following positions: NBA General Manager, Wayne Embry; NCAA President, Dr. James Frank; NFL General Manager, Ozzie Newsome; NACDA President, Gene Smith; NAIA & USOC Presidents, Dr. LeRoy Walker; and MLB National League President, Bill White.

In 1998, the John McLendon Minority Scholarship program was established in honor of the late John McLendon. As noted in the enclosed blue document, McLendon was a true pioneer in the field of athletics with a long list of remarkable achievements.

Since its inception, the McLendon Scholarship program has provided more than 30 postgraduate scholarships, each in the amount of $10,000, to minority students pursuing a graduate degree in athletics administration. Five scholarships are awarded each year to individuals meeting the criteria.

The McLendon Foundation is housed at NACDA; the professional association for those in the field of intercollegiate athletics administration. The organization provides educational opportunities and serves as a vehicle for networking, the exchange of information, and advocacy on behalf of the profession.

The McLendon Foundation, along with NACDA and the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission would hope that you would join us in recognizing these milestones in the area of athletics.

In conjunction with the inaugural induction of the Legends Class into the first Hall of Fame that will honor minority collegiate and professional athletics administrators, the McLendon Foundation Steering Committee unanimously voted to name the annual Mentoring Award in honor of Baseball Commissioner Allan H. (Bud) Selig. Commissioner Selig will be in attendance to present the inaugural award.
