David Williams is a graduate of Augustana College with a degree in education. He earned a master's degree in educational administration from North Dakota State. Williams was an assistant basketball coach at North Dakota State and later served as the top assistant basketball coach at Wisconsin Parkside. In addition, Williams was the head men's golf coach at UW Parkside, prior to accepting the athletics director position in January of 2001.

In August of 2006, Williams was elected as president of the Division II Athletics Directors Association (DII ADA).

In his tenure at UW-Parkside, 12 of 15 Ranger sports have qualified for NCAA postseason appearances. UW Parkside teams have won 10 Great Lakes Valley Conference championships in six different sports. Numerous all-americans and academic all-americans have emerged. The grade point average of the UW Parkside student-athletes has been consistently higher than the student body at-large, routinely exceeding a 3.0.

Williams has broken new ground with the communities of southeastern Wisconsin. He maintains solid relationships with area business through Ranger Athletics Corporate and Business Partners program. Williams also instituted, developed and continues to nurture the Ranger Athletics Association through work with the executive committee.

Facility improvements during Williams' reign have been prominent. The Sports and Activities Center has seen new state-of-the-art scoreboards and the first videoboard in the region. The baseball and softball fields received new scoreboards in the spring of 2007, and in 2006, new dugouts were placed at the baseball field. Oberbruner Field, home of Ranger baseball, has seats from the former Milwaukee County Stadium, which housed the Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers for decades. A new outfield fence was also erected under Williams' administration.

Williams has lured the NCAA Division I fencing national championship, the NCAA Division II national wrestling championship to the University campus. The NAIA national cross country championship is a staple on UW-Parkside's cross country course, as is the Footlocker Regional Championships. In addition, UW-Parkside has hosted a multitude of conference and regional championships in several sports.

Williams and his wife Suzanne, live in Kenosha with their children Cooper, 8, Carter, 6, and Caden, 1.
