Tenth Annual Football Championship Subdivision ADs Association Academic All-Star Team Named

Cleveland, Ohio -- The 51 winners of the 10th annual Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association Academic All-Star Team was announced by the Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association (FCS ADA), today.

The winners were announced at the Football Championship Subdivision football championship in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

"It's an honor for the Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association to annually award an academic all-star team in FCS football," said Jim Murphy, chair of the Football Championship Subdivision Academic All-Star Team Selection Committee and athletics director at Davidson College. "These outstanding individuals represent the true meaning of the word student-athlete. We are proud of their accomplishments both in the classroom and on the field."

Football players from all Football Championship Subdivision institutions are eligible for these prestigious awards. Each of the nominees were required to have a minimum grade point average of 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale) in undergraduate study and have been a starter or key player with legitimate athletics credentials. He must have reached his second year of athletics and academic standing at the nominated institution and have completed a minimum of one full academic year at the nominated institution. He must also have participated in 50 percent of the games played at his designated position.

Additionally, from the Academic All-Star team, eight finalists were selected to for the Seventh Annual FCS ADA's $5,000 postgraduate scholarship. Two student-athletes will receive postgraduate scholarships during the Association's annual membership meeting held in conjunction with the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Convention, being held in Dallas at the Hilton Anatole Hotel, June 9-12.

The eight finalists are Joshua Brite, Delaware State University, punter, 4.00; Brandon Cramer, University of Dayton, safety, 4.00; Parker Douglass, South Dakota State University, place-kicker, 3.78; Wes Doyle, University of San Diego, wide receiver, 3.56; Cory Koenig, South Dakota State University, running back, 3.77; Tom McAndrews, Eastern Washington University, tight end, 4.00; Matt Sherry, Villanova University, wide receiver, 3.84; and Torrey Thomas, University of Montana, free safety, 3.72.

 

 

A special Review Committee of Football Championship Subdivision athletics directors was responsible for selecting the all-star team and scholarship finalists. Completing this task were Peter Fields, Montana State; Marilyn McNeil, Monmouth; Jim Murphy, Davidson (chair); Ron Strollo, Youngstown State; and Donny White, Virginia Military Institute.
