New Name and Logo for former Division I-AA Athletics Directors Association

March 14, 2007

Cleveland, Ohio - In response to the National Collegiate Athletic Association's decision to eliminate the use of Division I-A, I-AA and I-AAA labels, the Division I-AA Athletics Directors Association changed its name to the Division I Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association (FCSADA) as of March 1, 2007. The association approved the name change at its annual meeting in conjunction with the 2006 NCAA Division I Football Championship title game in December.

"Considering the recent action of the NCAA Division I Board of Directors in changing the names of the Division I subdivisions, the Executive Committee of the former I-AA Athletics Directors Association voted to change the name of our association to the Division I Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association," said Don Kaverman, AD at Southeast Missouri State and president of the FCSADA.

"This change will keep the name of our association consistent with the new terminology adopted by the NCAA to identify our subdivision. I am confident over time the name will become familiar to people and will probably be shortened for everyday use. It very accurately describes those institutions that participate in the NCAA Division I Football Championship."

In addition to the name change, the FCSADA also approved a new logo for the association. The approved logo is found above.

Now in its 14th year, the Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association's mission is to enhance Football Championship Subdivision football. The Association is administered by NACDA, now in its 42nd year. NACDA is the professional and educational association for more than 6,500 college athletics administrators at more than 1,600 institutions throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. More than 2,000 athletics administrators annually attend the NACDA Convention.

Additionally, NACDA administers 10 professional associations for the separate business units that report directly to the athletics director. NACDA also operates the Sports Academy Directors' Cup program, which honors the four all-sports champions in NCAA Divisions I, II and III; and the NAIA. The Association has an awards program that includes the James J. Corbett Memorial Award, the highest administrative award presented in intercollegiate athletics; the AstroTurf Athletics Director of the Year (ADOY) Award, honoring the top-29 athletics directors by division across the country; and the Coca-Cola Community All-American Awards, recognizing seven student-athletes by division for their community service efforts. NACDA also provides a daily web clip service, the NACDA Daily Review; and a bi-monthly magazine, Athletics Administration.
