Dr. Tim Van Alstine is in his sixth year as the athletics director for Western Illinois.
In June 2005, Van Alstine was given the Sportsmanship Award from the Citizenship Through Sports Alliance (CTSA) and NACDA. In July 2005, Van Alstine was promoted to assistant vice-president for student services. Van Alstine is a member of the University's Gender Equity Committee and continues to advance the commitment to gender equity and the advancement of a gender neutral environment.
Before being hired at Western Illinois, Van Alstine served as the senior associate athletics director for external affairs at Ohio University since 1995.
While at Ohio, Van Alstine was responsible for all athletics department operations that impacted the general public, including ticket sales, media services, publications, marketing, promotions, and television and radio broadcast properties and licensing.
Prior to serving at Ohio, Van Alstine was the Director of Ticket Operations at Wisconsin from 1990 to 1995, where he was responsible for a ticket office that handled approximately 1.3 million tickets annually.
Van Alstine served as the director of athletics services at Maine from 1989 to 1990. He began his athletics administration career at Illinois, where was an assistant academic counselor pursuing his doctorate degree from 1986 to 1989.
He serves on the NCAA Division I Football Issues Committee and, in July 2005, joined the NACDA's I-AA Executive Committee. Van Alstine is currently serving as the chair of the newly named Summit League Joint Council and chair of the Gateway Football Conference Athletics Directors Council. He has also served the Mid-Continent Conference as the chair of the Men's Basketball Coaches Committee and is a member of the conference's Membership Committee.
Van Alstine earned his bachelor's degree from St. Norbert College in 1982. He received his master's degree from Fordham in 1984 and his doctorate from Illinois in 1992.
He and his wife, Lynn, are the parents of twin daughters, Leah, who will be a freshman at Western Illinois, and Abby who will be attending Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville. |
