Cleveland, Ohio - The Knights of Calvin College finish the fall season with the lead in the 2006-07 Sports Academy Directors' Cup standings. The Knights have posted 322 points with the finish of women and men's cross country, field hockey, women's volleyball, women and men's soccer, and most recently, football.

The Knights won the national championship in men's cross country, placed third in women's cross country, finished fifth in women's soccer and ninth in women's volleyball.

Washington University (MO) stayed in second with 283 points. The Bears finished runner-up finish in volleyball, fourth in women's cross country, ninth in women's soccer, 25th in men's cross country and 33rd in men's soccer.

Trailing second place by just 10 points is Messiah College with 273 markers. Messiah was ranked 21st after the first set of standings. The Falcons won the men's soccer title, finished runner-up in women's field hockey and were third in women's soccer.

Amherst College jumped from seventh in the first set of standings to fourth in the current rankings, just 10 points behind Messiah, with 263. The Lord Jeffs were runner-up in women's cross country, fifth in women's soccer and 17th overall in both men's soccer and women's volleyball.

The Lions of the College of New Jersey are locked in fifth for the second straight time, tallying 256 points. New Jersey finished runner-up in women's soccer, fifth in women's field hockey, eighth in men's cross country and 22nd in women's cross country.

These standings are based upon the completion of women and men's cross country, field hockey, football, women and men's soccer and women's volleyball. In addition to Calvin and Messiah winning national titles, Middlebury (Vt.) won women's cross country, Ursinus took first in field hockey, Mount Union took the football title, Wheaton won women's soccer and Juniata captured the women's volleyball title.

The Sports Academy Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. The United States Sports Academy, based in Daphne, Alabama, is the program sponsor. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 18 sports -- nine women's and nine men's.
