Stanford Closes Winter Season on Top
Standings in PDF Format Cleveland, Ohio - Eleven-time champion Stanford University closes out the winter championship season in the lead for the U.S. Sports Academy Directors' Cup Division I standings, holding a 119.125 point margin over the University of Texas. The Cardinal boast 766.625 points. They placed second in women's track and field, third in men's gymnastics and swimming, fifth in women's basketball and swimming, seventh in fencing, 13th in women's gymnastics, 37th in wrestling and 52nd in men's track and field. Texas follows with 647.5 points. The Longhorns won the national title in women's track and field. They also placed fourth in men's swimming and track and field, fifth in men's basketball and eighth in women's swimming. They are followed by Wisconsin, in third with 616 points; Penn State, in fourth with 615.875 points; and Ohio State, in fifth with 594.25 points. This is the final winter standings and includes the sports of women and men's basketball, women's bowling, fencing, women and men's gymnastics, women and men's ice hockey, rifle, skiing, women and men's swimming, women and men's track and field and men's wrestling. In addition to Texas, winning these championships were Maryland in women's basketball, Florida in men's basketball, Fairleigh Dickinson (N.J.) in women's bowling, Harvard in fencing, Georgia in women's gymnastics, Oklahoma in men's gymnastics, Wisconsin in women and men's ice hockey, Colorado in skiing, Auburn in women and men's swimming, Arkansas in men's track and field and Oklahoma State in men's wrestling. The highest Division I finish in rifle, a National Collegiate sport, was Nebraska in second. The U.S. Sports Academy Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. The United States Sports Academy, based in Daphne, Alabama, is the program sponsor. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 20 sports - 10 women's and 10 men's.
