Jerry Jones, Owner, President and General Manager of the Dallas Cowboys, to Give Keynote Address at NACDA Convention
March 6, 2008
Cleveland, OH - The National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) announced today that Jerry Jones, Owner, President and General Manager of the Dallas Cowboys, will give the association's keynote address at the 43rd Annual NACDA Convention, which will be held Monday-Thursday, June 9-12, at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas. The Keynote Address will take place on Tuesday, June 10 at 8 a.m. Since he took over as general manager in 1989, Jones became the first owner in NFL history to guide his team to three league championships in his first seven years of ownership (1992, 1993, 1995). With the 1995 Super Bowl victory, the Cowboys become the first team in NFL history to win three world titles in four seasons while also tying the NFL record for most Super Bowl victories by an organization with five. In 2009, the new Dallas Cowboys Stadium is scheduled to open for the 2009 NFL season in Arlington, Texas. The future success of the team and the new stadium provide the driving inspiration for the entire Jones family. The Cowboys new home will serve as a catalyst to attract a wide range of national and international events that will help define North Texas. Following the 2010 NFL season, the Dallas Cowboys Stadium will host Super Bowl XLV. As part of the Jones family and the Cowboys commitment to Arlington, Texas, the Gene and Jerry Jones Family Charities will donate $16.5 million to youth sports in the city over the next 33 years. Jones serves on various NFL committees, including Management Council Executive Committee, the Broadcast Committee, the Special Committee on League Economics and the Los Angeles Stadium Working Group. Jones was also on the committee that landed current NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in September 2006. Recently, Jones was appointed as a member of the National Football Foundation and Football Hall of Fame Board.
The Jones family is very involved in numerous civic and charitable causes, none more important than The Salvation Army. For the past 10 years, the family has dedicated the Cowboys Thanksgiving Day halftime show as a national showcase to kick off The Salvation Army's annual Red Kettle Drive, which has helped raise hundreds of millions of dollars to date.
The Joneses were selected for membership into the prestigious Salvation Army William Booth Society and received the Army's highest national community services award, the Evangeline Booth Award, in 1999. They were also named the Army's Partners of the Year in 1997 and were named to the Army's National Advisory Board in April 1998. The Joneses are also involved with several other community-related organizations, including National Board for the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, the Children's Medial Center of Dallas, Happy Hill Farm Academy/Home, the Kent Waldrep Paralysis Foundation, the Rise School of Dallas and the Family Place. |
